US Media Blues
psychological condition: Disgusted. With Bush.(Gee, who else?)
audio anti-depressant: Linkin Park. Actually, would that be a depressant, as opposed to the opposite?
It is I, Draco, come to bring some substance into your mindless little existences!
Recently, at the recommendation of my philosophy teacher, I watched a show called US Media Blues. The immorality of the media (regulated by the government, the head of which is Bush, who incidentally, is preaching about Christian values...oh, the irony) and the collective stupidity, ignorance and gullibility of the masses is overwhelming. But after you remind yourself that this is the American people we're talking about, sadly unsurprising.
I'm going to start by saying that the coverage of this war was utter shit.
Were any of you aware that the coverage of this war was completely controlled by the government? America, the land of free speech, my arse. The only press they allowed into Iraq was embedded into the army; effectively the reporters could only go where they were told they could go. Also, they missed all of the devastation caused by the American Weapons of Mass Destruction (my, my, this is just full of ironies, isn't it?) because the nuclear missiles travelled something like 40 km before exploding, so before they'd gotten there, all the bodies had been cleared away. And the pictures they did release were all government/military approved. Figures.
Also, the views they presented. They made it into entertainment, some sort of sport. Even the reporters reported it like that. ("And I see two tanks coming this way, and oh look! There's a missile being fired over there!..") They presented the views that they thought would get the best ratings and therefore sell well. Fox News was the worse, with a "danger rating" (scale of something like 5), complete with brightly coloured signs and tacky fonts. No journalist dared to present the other side. (Stories with two sides? What?) And when that prison scandal WAS shown (they sat on it for something like 2 weeks), it wasn't because they felt they -should- show it, no, it was because if they didn't, people on the internet were going to release it first. It's completely disgusting.
You know that the razing of Sadam's statue was a complete farce? There were actually under 100 Iraqis there, and most of them were the interpreters and drivers working for the Americans. They also filmed the statue with both the American and Iraqi flags on it because they didn't know which would sell better and wanted to decide later.
And the Americans! A more idiotic lot you never saw. Completely ignorant of the facts, equated Osama bin Laden with Sadam Hussein and Afganistan with Iraq. Iraq? Iran? Palestine? Afganistan? Oh, their all in -that- general area, must be the same. And after September 11, they were screaming for revenge. Kill! Pillage! Burn!..oh yes, civilisation.
And this all from the country with the Christian-based constitution, with Bush who's preaching Christian values and even has a bloody prayer group. Forgiveness? Thou shalt not kill? And yet condeming abortion and homosexuality. Self-righteous, hipocritical, bigoted fuckwit.
And they've managed to re-elect him. What a wonderful 4 years we have to look forward to.
